According to recent reports, Apple is still not ready to unleash its own-brand AI on the world via a new iPhone. However, the OEM is allegedly committed to overtake Google and its increasingly AI-powered Pixel devices (even the entry-level 8a that is now available on Amazon) with the next iOS upgrade.
The Cupertino behemoth is now said to have reached an advanced stage in its talks with OpenAI that might see the integration of ChatGPT into the successor to iOS 17. The alleged collaboration is believed to include the latest attempt to finally turn Siri into the voice assistant Apple may have always hoped for.
iOS 18 - and the 2024 iPhones slated to launch alongside it - are also tipped to support some of these new AI features on-device, although others may have to be processed on a cloud. Either way, they are also now believed to be unveiled about a month from today (May 12, 2024) during Apple's WWDC 2024 event.
