Xiaomi is rumored to be getting ready to launch the Pad 8 series, and per recent reports, both the Pro and standard models are expected to see a significant performance upgrade. Now, XiaomiTime reports that the Pad 8 Pro is "virtually certain" to pack the next-gen Snapdragon flagship SoC.
That is, the outlet is reporting that the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro will feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, which could also launch as the 8 Elite Gen 5. This would be a noticeable step-up from the Pad 7 Pro, which comes with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, an upper-mid-range SoC.
As for the regular Xiaomi Pad 8, Digital Chat Station, a reliable Weibo tipster, has already hinted that it will also see a significant jump in terms of performance. However, it's still unclear what the SoC inside the regular tablet in the series might be. XiaomiTime suggests that it could also feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2.
If that turns out to be true, the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro could differentiate itself from the standard model with a better display, a larger battery with faster charging, or with advanced accessory support. However, there's a chance that the upcoming non-Pro tablet could launch with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4.
Regardless of the SoC that powers the two tablets, Digital Chat Station recently reported that both the Xiaomi Pad 8 models will miss out on an OLED display. Instead, they are expected to feature an IPS screen, which wouldn't be an upgrade over their predecessor (256 GB Pad 7 Pro curr. $497.38 on TradingShenzhen).
