Looking to improve features and performance principally for Chinese consumers, Xiaomi has really upped its game for photography with the Mi Note 3. Compared to the Mi 5 and Mi 5S Plus (the last Xiaomi devices we tested), the Mi Note 3 shows significant signs of development, improving still photos in many areas and adding those desirable zoom and bokeh features, which are well-implemented. Our new challenging test scenes highlight some issues with texture on moving subjects, but in static scenes detail is good both outdoors and indoors, and autofocus is fast. When all is said and done, by offering premium flagship photography features and performance at a mid-range price point, the Xiaomi Mi Note 3 is a great choice for the budget-savvy smartphone shooter.

This Mi Note is not to be confused with Redmi Note series that is available in India, both are different. This variant I got comes with 6GB RAM and 64GB ROM. It packs a 3500 mAh battery. There is LED notification, there is dual SIM slot, you need 2x nano SIM’s there is no micro SD slot and OTG is supported. The home button on the front doubles up as finger print sensor, there is IR blaster too.

Its similarities to the iPhone’s Plus models are hardly a knock against Xiaomi, as the company has never been shy about following trends set by the big dogs in mobile, but the real story here is how well they manage to pull it off. It would be much harder to excuse the obvious Apple inspiration if the phone wasn’t such a pleasure. If you're coming from the Mi Note 2, we suggest you look towards the Mi MIX 2 instead. That'll be a significant upgrade, since you'd get a 5.99-inch in a 5.5-inch body, instead of the 5.7-inch display Mi Note 2 users were working with previously.
