Publisher Kepler Interactive and developer Sandfall Interactive have announced that their turn-based RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold over 3.3 million copies worldwide. The sales figure does not come as a surprise, especially after the game had surpassed 500,000 units sold just 24 hours after release.
These numbers have been achieved in just 33 days after the game’s April 24 launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), including day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass. This is yet another milestone that highlights the game’s strong appeal, even against subscription competition and the surprise release of Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.
The devs took to social media to announce this achievement. The post read, “Thirty-three days ago, we released Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Since then, we’ve sold 3.3 million copies. Seriously. As of today. We couldn’t make that up. Another entry on the long list of surreal moments that your support has made real. Thank you ALL. Tomorrow comes.????”
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is critically acclaimed, which is clearly indicated by the Metacritic scores of 92 on PS5 and 91 on Xbox Series X|S and PC. The game has resonated with both critics and fans, which explains the sales momentum.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 takes players to guide Gustave, Maëlle and their fellow Expeditioners through a Belle Époque–inspired France on a desperate mission to destroy the supernatural Paintress before she “paints” death each year. The game features a “reactive turn-based combat” that combines classic JRPG strategy with real-time actions, so players can dodge, parry and free-aim enemy weak points and get an immersive battle experience.
