MIMESIS is an upcoming co-op horror game from ReLU Games that uses AI in a strikingly realistic and transformative way. Set in a bleak, post-apocalyptic world, the game introduces a chilling threat: the rain. Prolonged exposure turns players into "Mimeses" – eerily accurate human replicas with lethal intent. Once transformed, these entities are no longer player-controlled but driven by adaptive AI that mimics the voices and behavioral patterns of real players, creating an atmosphere of constant suspicion and tension.
In MIMESIS, players form teams of four survivors who must gather resources by day and maintain an old train that serves as their refuge by night – when the deadly rain begins to fall and the Mimeses emerge or may already be among them. Distrust becomes essential to survival: falling for a convincing imitation can mean sudden death, as attacks may come without warning. Yet unchecked paranoia is just as dangerous. A hasty accusation or a single wrong decision can lead to the death of a genuine teammate, blurring the line between caution and catastrophe.
MIMESIS is played from a first-person perspective, with visuals that focus more on function than flair. The gameplay trailer below offers a quick look at what to expect.
First test phase scheduled for June 4–6
The official release of MIMESIS is scheduled for the third quarter of 2025. Before then, players will have a first chance to experience the game during a public test phase, which runs from June 4 to 6. Players interested in joining can sign up via the game’s Steam page until June 2. Those selected will also receive three extra access codes to play alongside friends. The codes will be distributed randomly among participants. For now, there's no word on additional test phases or a confirmed launch date.
