Vivo's OriginOS 3 based on Android 13 is set to debut in early November 2022
According to a new IDC market analysis report, the Chinese smartphone market shrank 11.9% year-on-year (YoY) in 3Q2022. However, it wasn't all bad news for all of its brands - Vivo included, which beat its sister company OPPO as well as fellow typical leaders Xiaomi, Honor and Apple to retain its top spot in terms of shipments - even though they fell by 20.5% YoY.
Vivo was also of course in a position to boost the (however ironic) rise in shipment volumes for foldable smartphones, which rose above 1 million (+246%) in the same quarter. The brand's X Fold series - its new Plus refresh included, is now said to be among the first in line for OriginOS 3 betas.
The two ultra-premium flexible-display devices are slated to join others such as the X Note, not to mention the X80 series (its Dimensity Edition included) in the first wave of preview updates to a new Android 13-based software skin touted to improve in the areas of smart-home control as well as user privacy, gaming and AI features.
The S15 and S15 Pro are the only non-flagship Vivo smartphones included in the preliminary OriginOS 3 beta program timeline dug up by famous leaker Digital Chat Station ahead of the new Android version's formal November 8, 2022 debut.
Vivo is now also projected to unveil beta support for its iQOO subsidiary, in a way that will see its latest 10-series flagships added to this list. They will be joined by their Chinese-market 9-series predecessors, along with the Neo6, presumably as the latter's freshly-launched successor already has Android 13 thanks to what is presumably the last stable build of the slightly older OriginOS Ocean system.
