ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5: Lenovo's latest premier multimedia laptop arrives with Intel Alder Lake vPro processors and an optional RTX 3080 Ti
Lenovo has revealed a new ThinkPad X1 Extreme, the fifth generation to date. Predictably, Lenovo has upgraded the ThinkPad X1 Extreme to new processors and graphics cards, along with a few other changes. For reference, the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 continues to feature a 16-inch display in a 16:10 aspect ratio.
As such, the fifth-generation model still measures 359.5 x 253.8 mm. While Lenovo states that the laptop starts at 17.9 mm, other configurations will be slightly thicker. For example, our Core i9 and RTX 3080-powered fourth-generation review unit was 18.2 mm thick. Also, the new ThinkPad X1 Extreme will weigh at least 1.88 kg and will only be available in 'Deep Black' with a black or woven carbon fibre top cover.
Additionally, Lenovo will offer the ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 with Intel Alder Lake H-series processors, including vPro editions. Moreover, Lenovo claims it will sell configurations with RTX 3050 Ti, RTX 3060, RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3080 Ti GPUs, plus 135 W, 170 W and 230 W Slim Tip AC adapters. All configurations will ship with 90 Wh batteries, dual SO-DIMM DDR5 slots and dual M.2 2280 slots for PCIe Gen4 SSDs.
The ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 will be available from June 2022 onwards in the Eurozone. According to Lenovo's press materials, the laptop will cost at least €2,749, including sales taxes. While Lenovo has not disclosed which H series processors it will offer with the X1 Extreme Gen 5, it has outlined most other configuration options in the specification sheet below.
