Yet again, it appears owners of the Exynos model of Samsung's newest flagship phone, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, get the short end of the stick. Going by side-by-side comparisons, the Exynos 2200-powered phones display both worse battery life and video recording.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra is Samsung's most ambitious smartphone yet and is available in both Exynos and Snapdragon guises. It seems, however, that there's a lack of parity across both models, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered Galaxy S22 Ultra being qualitatively better than the Exynos 2200-powered variant.

At least on the battery life front, the Snapdragon Galaxy S22 Ultra looks to be a bit better than the Exynos model. In a test by Golden Reviewer, the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S22 Ultra edges out the Exynos variant across most tasks, but particularly in standby, with the Exynos phone draining 15% of its battery over 11 hours of standby versus the Snapdragon model's 4%. That's a significant difference.

This advantage for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1-powered Galaxy S22 Ultra carries over to video recording, as the Exynos model looks to be plagued by a weird stabilization issue, as well as generally worse video quality when compared side-by-side to its Snapdragon-powered counterpart. By some reports, this was also the case with the Galaxy S21 Ultra, which could hint at a worse DSP or software.

It's important, of course, to point out that both of these issues could be resolved in the future with software updates. Samsung has promised a performance-focused update, so owners of the Exynos have something to look forward to.
