Nitecore's TUP2 is the successor to the compact TUP and a redesign of the model that may not appeal to everyone. This is because the configuration has changed significantly, and with it the technical specifications.
On the plus side, it now features the MCT system, which offers multiple color temperatures via two warm and two cool LEDs, ranging from 3,000, 4,500 to 6,500 Kelvin. This reduces the range from 180 meters to 120 meters. On the other hand, according to the reduced candela values, a stronger floodlight is likely. Then again, the lumen value has increased only from 1,000 to 1,200. This means that the TUP2 is only a limited direct successor. Whether you like the improvements therefore depends heavily on your own requirements for a flashlight.
At a length of seven centimeters and a weight of 58 grams, the flashlight is still very compact and lightweight. In principle, it is a larger and more powerful keychain light, and is definitely suitable as an EDC (everyday carry). Thanks to its clip, it can also be attached to a hat. The OLED display has also been retained, including the two-button operation.
The battery is non-replaceable, is charged via USB-C and, according to Nitecore, has been increased from 1,200 to 1,300 mAh. According to the manufacturer, the flashlight lasts 190 hours in its lowest mode. The predecessor only managed 70 hours at one lumen each. 300 lumens are possible for two hours. Turbo mode, as always, is only intended for momentary light.
The flashlight comes in three colors, including the signature orange, which is important for outdoor use. Nitecore is yet to announce a price, which should follow very soon.
