The Dimensity 9000+ and Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 are vying to be the most powerful Android SoCs at the moment, with both offering incremental improvements over their non-Plus variants. Early Geekbench results suggest the pair could be evenly matched when it comes to CPU performance, though.

Benchmark results for the new Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 and Dimensity 9000+ have appeared on Geekbench, pitting the ASUS ROG Phone 6 against an unnamed smartphone. For reference, the Dimensity 9000+ promises 5% better CPU and 10% GPU improvements compared to the existing Dimensity 9000. Seemingly, the only change is an overclocked Cortex-X2 CPU core, which now runs at 3.2 GHz.

Based on the Geekbench listing for an 'alps k6983v1_64', the changes from the Dimensity 9000 to the Dimensity 9000+ yield Geekbench scores of 1,322 for single-core and 4,331 for multi-core work. According to our database, this score represents a 3% performance improvement for the Dimensity 9000+ in the single-core benchmark compared to the best run from the Dimensity 9000.

By contrast, we have seen the Dimensity 9000 score 4,324 points in Geekbench multi-core, so the 4,331 points shown here is within a margin of error. Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 has achieved an almost identical score in the same benchmark suite. Benchmarked as the ASUS_AI2201_F, another ROG Phone 6 variant (ASUS_AI2201_D) practically matched these scores last month.

In other words, the Dimensity 9000+ and Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 could be good matches for each other, at least as far as CPU performance is concerned. GPU comparisons remain to be seen at this stage; we have yet to test the capabilities of the ARM Mali-G710 MP10 in the Dimensity 9000 and Dimensity 9000+ ourselves, but initial benchmarks suggested that it is comparable to the Adreno 730 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Allegedly, the Adreno 730 in the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 offers up to 10% higher clock speeds than its Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 sibling.
