Sharp Aquos Wish 5: Budget smartphone with IP69 and small camera bump revealed
Alongside the rather unusual Aquos R10, Sharp has also unveiled the Aquos Wish 5, which is an affordable mid-range smartphone with a colorful plastic chassis, a flat frame and circular camera module. The chassis is made from 60% recycled plastic, and the device is waterproof according to the IP69 standard.
While Sharp has not yet revealed the official MSRP, a look at the spec sheet suggests that the Aquos Wish 5 probably won’t cost too much. The 6.6-inch IPS display has a 120Hz refresh rate and a fairly low resolution of 1612 x 720 pixels. Furthermore, the Aquos Wish 5 features a mono speaker and an 8MP selfie camera. The fingerprint sensor is built into the power button on the side.
The MediaTek Dimensity 6300 should offer decent performance with its two ARM Cortex-A76 performance cores with up to 2.4GHz and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores. Sharp also includes 4GB RAM and 64GB to 128GB of mass storage, which can be expanded via microSD. Meanwhile, the battery has a capacity of 5,000mAh, and Sharp claims that a full charge with a 27W USB-C charger takes 130 minutes. The Aquos Wish 5 ships with Android 15 and will receive two major Android software updates as well as four years of security patches.
Price and availability
The Sharp Aquos Wish 5 is expected to launch in late June 2025 in Japan, Taiwan, Singapore and Indonesia. Sharp has yet to confirm whether its new budget smartphone will be available in other regions as well. More details on the phone's features and specs can be found on the official product page.
