Samsung has started selling the first 110-inch MicroLED TV, which it promises will deliver 'astonishing colour vibrancy and brightness' thanks to its emissive LED display technology. The 110-inch TV effectively succeeds 'The Wall', although it is only available to purchase in South Korea, for the time being.

It has been almost three years since Samsung showcased 'The Wall' at CES 2018 in Las Vegas, which it built using modular MicroLED panels. TVs have moved on a lot since then, but large MicroLED TVs have still been out of touch for all but a few people. Samsung is set to change that though with its 110-inch MicroLED TV, albeit at a price of KRW 170 million (~US$155,720).

Unsurprisingly, Samsung does not mention the price of its 110-inch MicroLED TV in its global press release. Instead, the company only mentions the factory price of its huge TV in the accompanying Korean-language press release. Hence, we do not know how much Samsung will charge for the TV when it reaches Europe and the US. Nonetheless, we would expect it to be monstrously expensive whenever it does arrive. We suspect that Samsung will wait until 2021 to unveil the TV globally though, what with CES 2021 in January.

The main benefit to microLED TVs over LEDs is hinted at in its name. Essentially, microLED panels have smaller LEDs than conventional screens, which allows them to include more LEDs per inch and provide improved image quality. According to Samsung, its 110-inch TV covers the AdobeRGB and DCI colour gamuts while reproducing high-contrast HDR content. Apparently, the TV should last up to 100,000 hours - over 11 years - before it needs replacing.

Specifications on the TV remain thin on the ground for the time being. Samsung has confirmed that the TV will operate in up to 4K and will offer a 99.99% screen-to-body ratio. It is unknown what connectivity the 110-inch MicroLED TV will have, nor its peak brightness, among other features.
