All in all, those who don't need portability will find this a good-value computer.

Samsung's RF710-S02 is a good offering for someone looking at a solid performaning 17-inch laptop with HD media features as long as you aren't looking to do 3D gaming. The system is one of the lighter 17-inch laptops on the market that make it a highly portable media platform. It also features USB 3.0 ports which is fairly unique. It would have been nice to see Samung use a full 1080p capable LCD panel but this probably won't be an issue for some buyer's.

The Samsung NP-NF710-S02US, besides having in incredibly long, meaningless name, is a decently priced and well-stocked 17-inch wide screen laptop. It has a quad-core CPU with lots of multimedia features, including lots of storage space for media and a Blu-ray drive for the latest and greatest movies in their best quality.

An unwillingness to settle for anything less than a quad-core processor is a sign that you're a true performance seeker. Media center laptops that use these processors generally command a higher premium than your average desktop replacement laptop, but not the Samsung RF710-S02US ($999.99 street). TigerDirect is selling this media center, with an Intel Core i7-720QM quad-core processor, for under a thousand dollars. And that doesn't exclude luxury features like the built-in Blu-ray drive, an Nvidia GeForce GT 330M discrete graphics card, and a 640GB hard drive. But if you're truly a citizen of cutting-edge technology, which entails looking beyond the processor, the Dell XPS 15 ($1,115 direct, 4 stars) is the ticket.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M: The Nvidia GeForce GT 330M is the successor of the GT 230M and technically just a slightly higher clocked GT 240M (but it should still maintain the power envelope of the GT 230M as the naming suggests).
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
720QM: The Core i7-720QM is the slowes Core i7 Quad Core in 2009 and clocks between 1.6 and 2.8 GHz (due to the Turbo Mode). Therefore, it combines the advantages of a slow quad core CPU with a fast single core one. Compared to the faster Core i7 mobile CPUs, the 720QM only features 6MB L3 Cache.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
