Samsung's RF710-S02 is a good offering for someone looking at a solid performaning 17-inch laptop with HD media features as long as you aren't looking to do 3D gaming. The system is one of the lighter 17-inch laptops on the market that make it a highly portable media platform. It also features USB 3.0 ports which is fairly unique. It would have been nice to see Samung use a full 1080p capable LCD panel but this probably won't be an issue for some buyer's.

The Samsung NP-NF710-S02US, besides having in incredibly long, meaningless name, is a decently priced and well-stocked 17-inch wide screen laptop. It has a quad-core CPU with lots of multimedia features, including lots of storage space for media and a Blu-ray drive for the latest and greatest movies in their best quality.

An unwillingness to settle for anything less than a quad-core processor is a sign that you're a true performance seeker. Media center laptops that use these processors generally command a higher premium than your average desktop replacement laptop, but not the Samsung RF710-S02US ($999.99 street). TigerDirect is selling this media center, with an Intel Core i7-720QM quad-core processor, for under a thousand dollars. And that doesn't exclude luxury features like the built-in Blu-ray drive, an Nvidia GeForce GT 330M discrete graphics card, and a 640GB hard drive. But if you're truly a citizen of cutting-edge technology, which entails looking beyond the processor, the Dell XPS 15 ($1,115 direct, 4 stars) is the ticket.

Beneath its unassuming exterior, Samsung's RF710 has a tiger of a processor, a more-than-capable graphics card, and an impressive set of features that should have broad appeal - as long as you're willing to pay the hefty £1,100 price tag.

Samsung is having a merry old time of it at the moment, offering some great laptops, some of the best smart phones on the market and one stonking tablet. 17.3-inch Samsung RF710-S03UK looks okay and offers decent performance for your cash. But, while it's a good all-rounder, we've seen other laptops perform better for less money.

But for the price, the RF710’s trade-offs seem reasonable. It might not be constructed of premium materials, but it still seems well made. It offers robust processing power and decent gaming capabilities in a slim profile, and an easy-to-access free drive bay makes it possible to add extra storage. It also comes complete with two USB 3.0 ports. If you’re looking for a well-rounded machine at a budget price, the RF710 fits that bill.

The Samsung RF710 is not a cheap laptop at over £1100, but it is well specified and capable of good performance. The storage available and strong gaming potential bode well for home-entertainment use, although the value of the slower quad-core processor is less certain when more efficient dual-core versions are available.

An impressive amount of power has been packed into the RF710-S03UK's chassis, and while it lacks the features of the Acer and the 3D wizardry of the HP Envy 17 3D, there's still loads to like here, from the bright screen to the solid usability.

The Samsung RF710 desktop replacement laptop is a capable notebook with a strong mix of components, but ultimately it seems to underperform relative to other systems in its class. On the other hand, it's a relatively attractive laptop, all muted dark gray and silver, and it's relatively light at 2.9kg with the power brick.

Sophisticated entertainer. Looking for a 17-inch multimedia notebook which not only looks stunning but also has some power under the hood? Look no further than the Samsung RF710. A quad-core processor, 6 GB of RAM and a Blu-Ray DVD drive are just a few of the highlights.

Samsung: Samsung Group is the largest South Korean conglomerate and was founded in 1938. Samsung Group employed 489,000 people in 2014 and is one of the world's largest companies in terms of revenue and market strength. The name Samsung means "Three Stars" in Korean and represents the three sons of the company's founder. The company was founded in 1938 as a grocery store. With its subsidiary Samsung Electronics, founded in 1969, Samsung took up the production of electrotechnical items, focusing on consumer electronics and household appliances at an early stage. Other branches in which the large corporation is active include mechanical engineering, automobiles (Hyundai), insurance, wholesale, real estate and leisure. Samsung manufactures a wide range of electronic products, including smartphones, televisions, home appliances and semiconductors. The company's Galaxy line of smartphones is one of the most popular in the world. Samsung is also a major player in the semiconductor industry, making memory chips and processors for many other electronics manufacturers.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M: The Nvidia GeForce GT 330M is the successor of the GT 230M and technically just a slightly higher clocked GT 240M (but it should still maintain the power envelope of the GT 230M as the naming suggests).
NVIDIA GeForce GT 420M: The GT 420M is an GF108 based middle class GPU with DirectX 11 support.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
720QM: The Core i7-720QM is the slowes Core i7 Quad Core in 2009 and clocks between 1.6 and 2.8 GHz (due to the Turbo Mode). Therefore, it combines the advantages of a slow quad core CPU with a fast single core one. Compared to the faster Core i7 mobile CPUs, the 720QM only features 6MB L3 Cache.
Intel Core i5:
460M: The Core i5-460M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-620M) and clocks between 2.53-2.8 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

2.9 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
2.9 kg:
76.18%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
