The Samsung Galaxy S21 series could soon be expanded to a fourth model, following the success of last year's Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE). If the S21 FE is anything like the current model, then it should combine compelling hardware with a reasonable price.

According to a new report by SamMobile, Samsung plans to launch a successor to last year's Galaxy S20 FE. While the FE arrived late into the Galaxy S20 series' lifespan, it has sold exceptionally well in the US.

Apparently, Samsung has assigned the Galaxy S21 FE the model number SM-G990B. However, it is worth noting that it seems SamMobile has based its logic on the SM-G990B being close in number to the SM-G991B, SM-G996B and SM-G998, the model numbers of the Galaxy S21 series.

The website adds that Samsung will ship the Galaxy S21 FE a 5G modem and at least 128 GB of storage. Only a maximum of 256 GB will be available though, and it is unclear if the device will have a microSD card slot. It was once a given that Galaxy S smartphones would have expandable storage, but that is no longer the case as of the S21 series.

Unsurprisingly, SamMobile believes that the Galaxy S21 FE will arrive with Android 11, probably One UI 3.5 to be precise. There is no word on a launch date yet beyond the second half of 2021, sadly. If the Galaxy S21 FE is anything like its predecessor, then it should have a high-refresh-rate AMOLED display, a flagship SoC and decent cameras. We suspect that Samsung will forgo a waterproof chassis or a glass back to keep costs down, though.
