The GeForce RTX 5080 Super leaks have started popping up, giving us a clear look at the possible specs of the GPU. Moore's Law Is Dead has now revealed the potential power draw of the RTX 5080 Super and the final figure is a big increase over the RTX 5080.

A few days ago, serial leaker Kopite7kimi leaked the RTX 5080 Super, which we promptly covered. Based on the leaked specs, the RTX 5080 Super is largely the same GPU as the base RTX 5080 but with two key differences: VRAM and power draw. Moore’s Law Is Dead has now revealed the much-increased RTX 5080 Super TDP.

In addition to confirming the specs provided by Kopite7Kimi, MLID claims the RTX 5080 Super could carry a TDP of 420 W or higher. An AIB source allegedly mentioned to MLID that Nvidia is currently planning to launch the RTX 5080 Super with:

  • A “full GB203” GPU with 10,752 CUDA cores
  • 24 GB of 32 Gbps GDDR7 VRAM
  • A 420 W or higher TDP

The last point is interesting, since Kopite previously mentioned that the RTX 5080 Super will draw more than 400 W of power but didn’t provide a solid figure. MLID’s claim of 420 W is a considerable increase over the RTX 5080 TDP, which stands at 360 W.

However, the AIB source reportedly also told MLID that Nvidia had “warned” the RTX 5080 Super TDP could be increased to 450 W “if they felt it necessary”.

In the absence of any CUDA core jump, Nvidia’s primary way to extract more performance out of the RTX 5080 Super is to feed the 10,752 CUDA cores more power to clock them higher. So, it makes sense that if Nvidia can’t get a meaningful performance bump with 420 W, the company could try to push as much as 450 W.

Except for the RTX 5090, no RTX 50 series GPU, including the latest RTX 5060, has brought exciting performance uplift over the RTX 40 series cards. The RTX 5080, for instance, only delivers around a 20% uplift over the RTX 4080. So, Nvidia could be trying to ensure that there is an appreciable performance difference between the RTX 5080 and the RTX 5080 Super with a high TDP.

Whatever the case ends up being, the RTX 5080 Super can’t come soon enough, as, in the current market, new GPU launches bring more options, increasing the chance of positive price movements.
