AMD's Ryzen 9 9950X delivered impressive results at a wide range of power levels and even beat the Core i9-14900K with remarkably lower power consumption. Even though it has been delayed by two weeks, the wait will be worth it because it delivers some serious firepower when overclocked.
In a new Geekbench listing, the Ryzen 9 9950X scores 3,706 and 26,047 in its single and multi-core tests with a boost clock of 5.95 GHz. Furthermore, this is an engineering sample, leaving scope for further improvements. At 5.7 GHz, the Ryzen 9 9950X scored 3,359 and 20,550 in the same test. Essentially, the overclock resulted in a 10% improvement in single-core performance and 26% in multi-core.
So far, Apple's M4 sits on top of Geekbench's single-core charts with a score of 3,715. With liquid nitrogen cooling, it can go as high as 4,001. The last-gen Ryzen 9 7950X could go as high as 6.7 GHz on a single core; so one can reasonably assume the Ryzen 9 9950X can do the same or even better with proper cooling.
