OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi and others start confirming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 usage in upcoming flagship smartphones
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is now upon us, with Qualcomm promising performance and efficiency gains over the already impressive Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. No company has announced a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-based smartphone yet, but several Android OEMs have started teasing as much on Chinese social media. Mirroring last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 announcement, the likes of OnePlus, Vivo and Xiaomi have posted not-so-cryptic images containing representations of Qualcomm’s latest flagship chipset.Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-based smartphone yet, but several Android OEMs have started teasing as much on Chinese social media. Based on last year’s release schedule, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered smartphones should start arriving in China later this month, with more on the horizon for December introductions. However, it seems likely that most Android OEMs will wait until early 2023 before debuting the same smartphones globally. So far, at least nine companies have confirmed that they will be using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the following devices:
- iQOO 11 series
- Motorola X40 (Edge 40 Pro)
- OnePlus 11
- Oppo Find X6 Pro
- Nubia Z50 Pro
- RedMagic 8 Pro
- Vivo X90 Pro Plus
- Xiaomi 13
- Xiaomi 13 Pro
- ZTE Axon 50 Ultra
Additionally, Qualcomm did not mention Samsung during its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 announcement, but an executive did during a recent earnings call. As we discussed earlier this month, Samsung will source the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for all versions of the Galaxy S23 series, including European variants. Presumably, other OEMs will announce Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-backed smartphones soon too, such as ASUS with its ROG series or Blackshark and Realme. You can find all the teasers that Android OEMs have released so far below.
