In anticipation of the June 5 release date for the Nintendo Switch 2, the company has rechristened its Switch Online mobile app, renaming it the Nintendo Switch App and adding some new features.
As spotted by Wario64 on X, the overhauled media share functionality now automatically syncs up to 100 photos or videos taken on the Switch 2. These will be stored on Nintendo's servers for 30 days.
This feature was available on the original Switch but needed a QR code scan to sync files, which was a little unreliable.
It also lays the groundwork for the previously announced Gamechat feature for the Switch 2, which requires a phone number registration to use. It allows up to 12 people to chat or share their screens while playing games on the Switch 2. It also supports an optional Switch 2 camera accessory, and the feature can be toggled using the new Joy-Cons.
You can also add new friends on the console using a friend code or by scanning a QR code right from the app. Once added, you can view your friends' status and play activity directly on the app.
As noted by Engadget, there are also placeholder icons for game-specific services, such as Zelda notes, that will be functional when the Switch 2 releases.
There have already been various leaks of Switch 2's upgraded functionality, including a Reddit AMA by an early Switch 2 user with the handle "Pg_atom."
