Digital Chat Station says that MediaTek's newly-launched Dimensity 1080 mobile AP will power one Redmi Note 12 device. The leaker adds that the MediaTek SoC performs on par with the Snapdragon 778G, at least in AnTuTu.

Over the past few weeks, there have been plenty of rumours talking about the highly-anticipated Redmi Note 12 series. A 3C certification listing confirms that there are three devices in the works. At least one of them will use MediaTek's newly-launched Dimensity 1080 SoC, according to Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station (via ITHome).

One can expect to see the Dimensity 1080 power the entry-level Redmi Note 12 or the mid-range Redmi Note 12 Pro (tentative). Digital Chat Station's earlier leak suggested that the former would pack 50 MP + 8 MP + 2 MP sensors and a hole-punch selfie camera. The aforementioned 3C listing says that it will support 67 W fast charging.

Digital Chat Station adds that the Dimensity 1080 performs on par with the Snapdragon 778G in AnTuTu. So far, the difference between previous Redmi Note devices has been minimal, and it might not be different with the Redmi Note 12 trio. One can only hope that the entire lineup is 5G-enabled as an LTE-only SKU muddies the waters unnecessarily.

The top-of-the-line Redmi Note 12 Pro+ will probably use a higher-end MediaTek chipset, likely a Dimensity 8100, if an earlier leak is accurate. That said, another report said that one Redmi Note 12 SKU would pack a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 (or Snapdragon 7 Gen 2) SoC. Xiaomi is known to use a mix of Qualcomm and MediaTek SoCs on the Redmi Note series, so it isn't outside the realm of possibilities.
