Reviews for the MSI PE60-2QEi716H11BW

As the title of this review playfully suggests, the MSI PE60 Prestige offers a distinct advantage among competing 15-inch gaming laptops because it doesn’t look like a typical gaming laptop with over-the-top design elements. In fact, the PE60 looks like a relatively boring silver-and-black business notebook until you get close enough to notice it has a high-quality screen and packs a gamer-friendly Nvidia GeForce graphics card. This split personality makes the MSI PE60 Prestige an obvious choice for students who want to get an entry-level gaming laptop but have to satisfy parents who insist that the main purpose of a PC is for doing school work.

While billed as an elite notebook that can handle work and play, the $1,119 MSI PE60 Prestige falls a bit short of its namesake. The notebook has a colorful display and enough CPU and graphics muscle for productivity and gaming, as well as speakers that are loud enough to illuminate your jam sessions and game marathons.

Model: The MSI PE60-2QEi716H11BW is depicted as a piece of art by MSI. Design is kept elegant and classy with no compromise in the performance. Even at first glance, users will definitely appreciate the attention to fine detail. The MSI PE60-2QEi716H11BW comes in beautiful aluminium silver, while the lid is finished in brushed metal. There is a small MSI logo on the right side keeping things visually simple. Inside the laptop is a full sized, backlit chiclet keyboard and a large off-center touchpad. Display on the MSI PE60-2QEi716H11BW is a 15.6 inch Full HD eDP panel with superb colors and sharpness. Audio quality is also top notch with the 4 built-in speakers and subwoofer powered by Dynaudio. This machine definitely lends itself perfectly being both a serious work machine and entertainment device on-the-go.
The Windows 8.1 system comes with an Intel Core i7-4720HQ processor clocked at 2.6 GHz, 12 GB DDR3L RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX950M GPU and a 1 TB HDD for storage. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M: Upper mid-range graphics card of the GeForce GTX 900M series.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
4720HQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.6 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.6 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
15.60":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

MSI is especially known as a manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards for PCs, but also offers computer accessories, complete systems, motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktop PCs, monitors and other components. However, the Microstar brand name in Germany belongs to the Medion company. MSI is known for its gaming products and has developed a wide range of gaming laptops and desktop PCs. The company is also active in workstations, servers and industrial automation. MSI has offices in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
71.5%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
