Fan-less. Yet another laptop wants to lure potential buyers with a low price and an outstanding performance, dubbed Lenovo G50-30. A Bay Trail Celeron paired with 2 GB of working memory is apt for office and Internet applications. Will the laptop surprise us in any of our tests?

Overall, the Lenovo G50-70 is a solid budget class laptop for those needed a full size system. It offers good performance and surprising battery life given its small capacity. The best part is that it is easy to open it up and uupgrade components. The system is hampered by a number of small annoyances likes multitouch trackpad issues and a reflective display.

At just $299, the Lenovo G50-45 is an affordable laptop with a bright screen and good performance for the price. However, the short battery life is disappointing, and the keyboard doesn't live up to the Lenovo brand. Although it costs $100 more, we recommend the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 ($399) because of its better build quality, longer endurance and better typing experience.

No frills. Visually, the G50 doesn't stray from the typical look we've come to expect from Lenovo. The internal components are solid and while the notebook isn't what we'd call a highlight, it's a very decent package overall.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail):
Integrated GPU for tablet and notebook Bay Trail SoCs. Based on the Ivy Bridge GPU with four Execution Units and support for DirectX 11.
Intel HD Graphics (Haswell): In the mobile Haswell Celeron and Pentium integrated processor graphics card. The HD Graphics is the slower, GT1 called, part with less execution units (EUs).
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
Intel HD Graphics 4400:
ULV integrated GPU (GT2) with 20 EUs found on certain Haswell CPU models.
Intel HD Graphics 5500: Integrated graphics card (GT2) in the Core processors of the Broadwell U-series (15 W TDP).
AMD Radeon R5 M230: Low-end graphics card based on the GCN architecture ("Sun" GPU).
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel Iris Graphics 6100: Integrated graphics card (GT3) in the Core processors of the Boradwell U-series (28 W TDP).

Intel Celeron:
N2830: Soc with an integrated dual core Atom processor clocked at up to 2.4 GHz and an Intel HD Graphics GPU.
2957U: Entry level ULV dual core processor with integrated graphics card called Intel HD Graphics and reduced features of the Haswell core (no Turbo Boost, AES, ...).
Intel Core i3:
4005U: Haswell-based ULV dual-core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz without Turbo Boost support. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4400 and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
5500U: Broadwell-based ULV (ultra low voltage) dual-core processor for notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 5500 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.
AMD A-Series:
A8-6410: Quad-core APU for entry-level devices and sub-notebooks, codenamed Beema. Based on the Puma+ architecture and integrates a Radeon R5 GPU.
Intel Core i5:
5257U: Broadwell-based low-voltage dual-core processor for notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated Iris Graphics 6100 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.

70.8%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
