We recently reviewed the Keychron K4 HE, a wireless Hall-effect gaming keyboard, and we praised it for its charming Cherry wood accents, excellent customisability, and comfortable typing feel. Now, Keychron has launched the K8 HE, bringing all of those same positives to the ever-popular TKL (tenkeyless) layout.
Keychron K8 HE gaming keyboard details
Much like the Keychron K4 HE (curr. $144.99 on Amazon) we reviewed, the K8 HE comes with Gateron Double-Rail Magnetic Nebula switches, which deliver impressive keycap stability, exhibiting almost zero wobble. Likewise, the K8 HE Special Edition features the same OSA-profile double-shot PBT keycaps, while the Standard Edition comes with shine-through Cherry-profile keycaps that allow the north-facing RGB backlighting to shine.
Unliike the K4 HE, however, the K8 HE features a more traditional TKL layout that most gamers will find very familiar. The navigation cluster sits above the arrow keys, just to the right of the main alpha keys, and the F row is separated into groups of four keys. The K8 HE also features the same aluminium plate material and deep software customisation via the Keychron Launcher web application, and it's also one of very few Hall-effect gaming keyboards that supports macros, unlike the Wooting 80HE and Iqunix EZ63.
The K8 HE features tri-mode connectivity, with Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz, and USB-C wired options, and the 2.4 GHz mode features fast 1,000 Hz polling for gaming performance. In addition to versatile connectivity options, the K8 HE features a dedicated macOS mode, with a hardware toggle switch for OS switching, and there are additional macOS keycaps in the box to keep the experience consistent.
The Keychron K8 HE is only available from the Keychron website, at $129.99 for the Standard Edition or $139.99 for the Special Edition, for the time being, but it will likely be available on Amazon at a later date.
