Disney is seeing green when it comes to streaming.
The entertainment juggernaut plans to increase the prices on its Disney+ streaming service (as well as some other streaming services) in the next few weeks. This means that Disney+ subscribers will be paying more for the same plan starting October 21.
The price increase also affects Hulu, ESPN, and HBO Max, including tiers with or without ads. The new pricing breakdown is as follows:
| Service | Old price per month (USD) | New price per month (USD) |
|---|---|---|
| Disney+ (Ads) | $9.99 | $11.99 |
| Disney+ (No Ads) | $15.99 | $18.99 |
| Disney+ and Hulu (Ads) | $10.99 | $12.99 |
| Dinsey+ and Hulu (No Ads) | $19.99 | $19.99 |
| Disney+ and Hulu and ESPN (Ads) | $16.99 | $19.99 |
| Disney+ (No Ads) w/ Hulu and ESPN (Ads) | $21.99 | $24.99 |
| Disney+ and Hulu (No Ads) w/ ESPN (Ads) | $26.99 | $29.99 |
| Disney+ and Hulu and HBO Max Basic (Ads) | $16.99 | $19.99 |
| Disney+ and Hulu and HBO Max Basic (No Ads) | $29.99 | $32.99 |
Disney increased prices for these services just last year, in October 2024. Around this time, Disney lost roughly 700,000 subscribers, although this may have also been due to the service ending password sharing.
Although these new prices seem like small increases, they add up over a year. Subscribers will be paying anywhere from $24-$36 more per year under the new scheme. Higher pricing schedules have hit the streaming industry hard over the past year; Netflix increased its prices back in January, as did Peacock in July and Apple TV in August.
It may be time to finally build your own media library rather than paying to rent shows and movies every month.
