Devolo has released a new WiFi router. The so-called WiFi 6 Router 3600 5G LTE isn't a typical home router, as it is designed to provide internet access via a cellular connection. More specifically, this router measures 113 x 113 x 223 millimeters and supports Nano SIM cards for access to 5G networks. In case a 5G signal isn't available, it can connect to LTE and even 3G as a fallback option, even though that would result in drastically slower speeds.
Unfortunately, Devolo’s new router doesn't support WiFi 7, but it does support WiFi 4, 5, and 6 on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. Speeds on the 5GHz band theoretically max out at 2,400 Mbps, while 2.4GHz provides up to 1,200 Mbps. WiFi 7 or even WiFi 6E could have increased the bandwidth of Devolo’s mobile 5G router, but the cellular connection is likely the bottleneck in most use cases.
It should be noted that his device can also be used like a conventional router, as it sports two Ethernet ports, one of which can be used as a WAN port with up to 2.5 Gbps. The second LAN port has 1 Gbps. Analog telephones can also be hooked up via an FSX port.
Moreover, the portable 5G router offers more convenient features such as a USB port, guest WiFi network and parental controls. These can be set up via the corresponding Devolo app or regular web interface. The Devolo WiFi 6 Router 3600 5G LTE is orderable at the company’s official UK online store for £449 and is available in many other European markets.
