The Chuwi Gamebook is the first gaming laptop from the Chinese manufacturer and delivered a convincing performance in our test. Equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti laptop GPU, the laptop provides a great basis that is characterized by modern hardware and solid performance. The manufacturer remains true to itself with the display and underpins the gaming claim. The 16-inch IPS display offers WQXGA resolution (2,560 × 1,600 pixels) and 300 Hz, providing gamers with a smooth and detailed picture. High color fidelity and factory calibration further enhance the gaming notebook.
The combination of AMD's 16-core Ryzen 9 9955HX and Nvidia's RTX 5070 Ti enables outstanding performance in games as well as for productive tasks. The design follows classic gaming notebook features with RGB lighting keyboard and good ventilation, while the weight of around 2.5 kg allows a certain degree of mobility. The battery life lasts around 6-7 hours in office mode, but drops to around 1.5 hours under load, which is typical of devices in this performance class.
In addition to the outstanding performance, especially with the CPU, the extensive connectivity options are also impressive. Unfortunately, you have to do without USB 4 or Thunderbolt, which is bearable if you don't need them. The internal upgradeability with two M.2 slots and up to 64 GB DDR5 RAM is good and appropriate. The quality of the speakers is below average.
Overall, Chuwi delivers a strong debut in the gaming segment with the Gamebook: high performance, a good display, and high-quality workmanship are offset by minor weaknesses such as loud fans, below-average sound, and a lack of high-end interfaces. Nevertheless, it is a very interesting overall package for price-conscious gamers.
