The cheaper Residential Lite plan for Starlink satellite Internet subscription that SpaceX launched earlier this year has been a success, but was only available in a limited number of states.
Where present, Starlink's Residential Lite plan costs just $80/month for unlimited satellite Internet data, which is much cheaper than the $120/month that SpaceX charges elsewhere.
The Residential plan comes with deprioritized data, meaning that it won't hit the peak Starlink Internet speeds possible in a given area, but SpaceX still guarantees 50 Mbps - 100 Mbps speeds, which appears to be enough for a lot of subscribers at that price.
Starlink Residential Lite availability
Moreover, the cheaper Residential Lite plan can be taken advantage of with the Starlink Standard Kit, which was, until recently, cheaper than the Starlink Mini dish that can now be had for $299 over at Amazon.
The fly in the Residential Lite plan's ointment was its limited availability only in certain areas where Starlink had excess capacity, and as disparate as the Midwest, Maine, or New Mexico. SpaceX vowed the expansion of its coverage and, starting this month, it has delivered.
Starlink's cheaper Residential Lite plan is now offered in more than 30 US states, up from the original 15, including parts of Texas and California, as well as in Alaska.
Availability has been expanded to the entire New York state, too, and the lower Residential Lite prices are making inroads down in Pennsylvania.
Florida, however, as well as most of the South Atlantic and East South Central states, haven't been covered just yet.
