The Asus ROG Strix OLED XG32UCWG is positioned as a more affordable alternative to the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDP. After its recent debut in China, the new gaming monitor is now available for preorder in Germany for €970, while the older model still costs at least €1,198. This indicates that the monitor will become available in more European countries shortly. That said, buyer’s who’d like to save €228 must also live with two more or less significant caveats.
Firstly, the new model features a USB-C port that only charges laptops with up to 15 watts instead of 90 watts, meaning an additional power cable will be required even for very efficient ultrabooks. Secondly, the 31.5-inch WOLED panel only has a refresh rate of 165Hz at full 4K resolution, or 330Hz when the resolution is reduced to 1920 x 1080 pixels. However, this monitor also utilizes a modern MLA+ panel from LG, which can hit a peak HDR brightness of 1,300 nits.
The monitor can display at least 99% of the DCI-P3 color space. The screen has a glossy finish, more precisely a "TrueBlack Glossy" surface that’s designed to render deep blacks even in bright environments. Asus further advertises a response time of just 0.03 ms, while AMD FreeSync Premium Pro should prevent screen tearing. Also new is the more compact stand, which takes up significantly less space on a desk but can only be adjusted in height by roughly 3 inches.
Additionally, the Asus ROG Strix OLED XG32UCWG features an integrated USB-A hub with three ports and a KVM switch, which allows users to control two computers with the same mouse and keyboard. Besides USB-C, the screen also offers two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4. Lastly, Asus includes a three-year warranty for the monitor, which also covers OLED burn-in.
