Casio is no stranger to collaborations, and for its latest G-Shock, the watchmaker has teamed up with Japanese rock powerhouse ONE OK ROCK to create a limited-edition GM-2100TTTR-8A, celebrating the band's 20th anniversary. It's a surprisingly elegant take on the usual rugged G-Shock aesthetic, and it's loaded with details that fans of the band—which has garnered an international following—will appreciate.
Forget the usual all-black, ultra-tough G-Shock look. The G-Shock GM-2100TTTR-8A opts for a cool, almost ethereal vibe with a silver bezel and a white, semi-transparent band. The black dial adds nice contrast and it also provides visual flair with gradient-processed cherry blossoms scattered across it. The 9 o'clock inset dial features a small hand designed like a Japanese sword while the front bezel sports engraved Roman numerals.
The ONE OK ROCK connection is apparently subtly woven throughout the watch. Swedish artist Emil, a friend of the band, designed the group's logo, which is engraved on the back. Emil also designed the special package, which is decked out in the same cherry blossom motif that graces the watch face. Meanwhile the strap ring is engraved with letters reproducing bassist Ryota Kohama's tattoo.
The G-Shock x ONE OK ROCK edition is priced at 44,000 yen (~$295) and will go on sale in Japan on April 10th.
