Casio’s Edifice lineup has usually been all about sporty designs, which makes sense since they draw a lot of inspiration from motorsports. But with the newly launched EFB109D series, the focus shifts towards a more refined, everyday wear approach.
Now available in the US for $130, these stainless-steel watches come with a clean and minimalist aesthetic while still retaining (most) Edifice elements. The EFB109D-1AV features a glossy black dial with a red-accented seconds hand, while the EFB109D-2AV sports a deep blue dial. Both have a sunray texture that adds visual depth to the overall design. The mirror-polished bezel and smooth stainless-steel case also contribute to a more dressed-up look.
One of the standout features here is the sapphire crystal glass, which is uncommon at this price point. Sapphire crystal implies more scratch resistance over standard mineral glass. The rest of the build is pretty familiar - 100-meter water resistance, a screw-lock case back, and a three-hand analog setup with a date display. While these are clearly solid entry-level stainless-steel watches, they lack advanced features like a chronograph or solar charging, which places them in competition with entry-level Seiko and Citizen models rather than Casio’s higher-end Edifice lineup.
If you're into affordable, well-built watches with a sapphire crystal, the EFB109D series is an option worth considering. However, its basic functionality may leave some looking for more.
