Ayaneo and Anbernic are going toe-to-toe over their next retro gaming handhelds. To recap, the former unveiled the Pocket AIR Mini earlier this week as the culmination of its Code-R project. Then about 24 hours later, Anbernic unveiled the RG476H out of nowhere with a similar design and form factor.
Now, Ayaneo has all but confirmed that the Pocket AIR Mini specifically targets Anbernic's entry-level niche. Specifically, the Pocket AIR Mini will launch with a 4.2-inch display that outputs at 1,280 x 960 pixels. Apparently the first of its kind, this 4:3 panel is roughly 0.5-inches smaller than the one Anbernic is expected to borrow from the RG477M and RG Slide (curr. $199 on Amazon) in creating the RG476H.
Also, Ayaneo has hinted that the Pocket AIR Mini will be a relatively low-powered affair compared to its other gaming handhelds. As the new image below shows, Ayaneo claims that the Pocket AIR Mini should be powerful enough to emulate Dreamcast games with a 2x integer scale and PlayStation games at a 4x scale. Unfortunately, full device specifications and pricing remain unknown at this stage.
