Acer is upgrading two of its most interesting ultra-light notebooks to Ryzen 8000. The Swift Edge 16 packs a Ryzen 7 8840U and a 16-inch 120 Hz OLED display into a 1.23-kilogram chassis, while the Swift Go 14 offers even more performance thanks to a Ryzen 9 8940HS in a more compact chassis.

The latest Acer Swift Edge 16 was announced in May 2023 and now the ultra-light notebook has been upgraded from the Ryzen 7 7840U to the newer Ryzen 7 8840U. However, performance values will not change much and the integrated AMD Radeon 780M also remains unchanged. The new model primarily promises better AI performance.

There have been few changes to the design or other features. Acer once again packs a 16-inch 16:10 OLED display with a resolution of 3200 x 2000, a frame rate of 120 Hz and a brightness of 500 nits into the 2.71-pound, 0.51-inch-thin chassis. The device is equipped with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, a PCIe 4.0 SSD with a maximum capacity of 2 TB and WiFi 7. The 54 Wh battery is charged via USB-C with up to 65 watts. The notebook has two USB 4 ports with data rates of up to 40 Gbit/s.

At the same time, Acer is updating the Swift Go 14, which was previously available with either Ryzen 7000 or Intel Meteor Lake. The new top model runs on the AMD Ryzen 9 8940HS with Radeon 780M. At a weight of 2.91 pounds, the 14-incher is even slightly heavier than the Swift Edge 16, but has a larger 65-Wh battery that can be charged with up to 100 watts. The Swift Go 14 has a 90-Hz OLED display with a resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels and also supports USB 4, HDMI 2.1, up to 32 GB of RAM and a maximum 2 TB SSD.

Prices and availability

The new Acer Swift Edge 16 (SFE16-44) is expected to come onto the North American market in March for starting price of $1299.99, while the Acer Swift Go 14 (SFG14-63) will be will be available in North America in April for a starting price of $699.99, although the base model of the 14-inch laptop uses an IPS panel instead of an OLED display.
