After eight years on the market, WhatsApp now provides voice, audio calls, and text messaging services to one billion daily users and 1.3 billion monthly users, more than twice the numbers recorded in early 2014.

WhatsApp started back in 2009, being acquired by Facebook five years later. Now, the cross-platform mobile messaging app known as WhatsApp Messenger has a few siblings and all of them are being used on a regular basis by more than a billion people.

WhatsApp Status, a direct competitor for Snapchat Stories, has 250 million daily users, more than Snapchat's 166 million users that access its entire app. Thanks to Facebook's involvement in WhatsApp, the entire service now has one billion daily users, as well as 1.3 monthly users. These people send more than 55 billion daily messages, including no less than one billion videos and 4.5 billion photos. It is also worth mentioning that WhatsApp currently supports no less than 60 languages.

Facebook acquired WhatsApp for an impressive US$19 billion price tag back in February 2014, when it had 450 million monthly users and around 350 million daily active users.
