Three years, four Americas titles, eight straight international appearances, and zero grand finals won. The valyn era is over.

G2 Esports has parted ways with Jacob "valyn" Batio, the in-game leader who helped bring the organization back to relevance after years in the wild. The announcement arrived on October 27 alongside a farewell video, closing a three-year chapter that began when G2 signed the remnants of The Guard's Ascension-winning roster in 2023.

The résumé speaks for itself: eight consecutive international appearances, four VCT Americas trophies, and the 2025 season in which G2 became the first team to win all three regional titles in the Americas. They finished runners-up at Masters Bangkok 2025 and made the top four at Champions Shanghai 2026, where 100 Thieves eliminated them on October 16. G2's own social post summed it up with a precision that stung: "8 straight international appearances, 4 VCT Americas trophies, 1 legendary IGL".

Valyn's own goodbye was more personal. "All good things come to an end, and honestly, the last three, four years with these guys have been amazing," he said in a video posted to X. He added that his only regret was that the group never reached "the highest of highs" together. The farewell was gracious, but the subtext was clear: this roster had taken G2 as far as it could.

What comes next for G2

The roster currently lists jawgemo, BABYBAY, trent, and leaf, with Ambrose as manager and JoshRT as head coach. BABYBAY is also rumored to be on the way out, and G2 is reportedly closing in on Leviatán's Eduardo "Sato" Nagahama and Francisco "kiNgg" Aravena, with kiNgg expected to take over the IGL role. Valyn's next destination isn't official, but multiple reports link him to Fnatic ahead of VCT 2027. A previous verbal agreement with LYON reportedly collapsed after the Mexican organization failed to secure a partner slot.

Valyn didn't confirm any of it; He only offered a tease: "I'm excited for you guys to see what's next for me because I think it's something that will reignite me as a player". For a player who spent three years as the steady hand on a team that always seemed one series short, a fresh start makes sense.

The community saw the last dance coming

G2's 2026 season ended with the organization calling it "our last dance" in Shanghai, and fans had been bracing for this since rumors of a roster overhaul surfaced in September. VLR.gg threads on the departure are a mix of resignation and genuine sadness. "Not a G2 fan, but I like Valyn and Trent, sad to see that duo is over," one user wrote. Another was more blunt: "Just kill me, bro".

The Valyn era gave G2 four regional titles and a permanent place in the Americas conversation. It didn't give them the international trophy they spent three years chasing, and now G2 has to replace it.
