The days of the Mercedes EQC SUV, which has been in production since 2019, may be numbered. An unofficial render image now illustrates the potential exterior design of a rumored sedan variant of the electric C-Class, which could be partly based on a sleek and super-efficient concept car that was unveiled earlier this year.

As indicated by the incredible success of the Tesla Model Y, many electric car buyers obviously prefer spacious SUVs these days, since large trunks and a high seating position can make them more practical than a sporty sedan. However, after the recent reveal of the new Mercedes EQE SUV, which is just a slightly larger than the EQC SUV, some rumors are now suggesting that the German automaker may be working on a possible sedan version of the Mercedes EQC.

Therefore, the talented graphic designers at Motor1 have now created an unofficial render image that illustrates the purported exterior design of Mercedes’ all-electric C-Class. The image in question can be accessed via this link. As expected, the illustrators envision the Mercedes EQC sedan as a very sleek five-seater, which adopts some of the design language that was introduced with the futuristic Mercedes EQXX concept car. Furthermore, the Mercedes EQC could be the first vehicle that is built on the automaker’s new 800-volt platform which goes by the somewhat ambiguous name “MMA”.

Assumably, the rear of the new Mercedes EQC will look much more like a traditional sedan compared to the eye-catching EQXX, which for example featured a retractable diffusor. Motor1 has also adjusted the sloping roofline, which now looks like it should provide rear passengers with a decent amount of headspace. As a new competitor for the Tesla Model 3 and the BMW i4, the Mercedes EQS sedan will probably cost between US$50,000 and US$70,000; but the German EV is not expected to hit the market until 2024 at the earliest.
