According processor specifications that were leaked by Twitter user APISAK, an unnamed third party has managed to push the upcoming Intel Core i9-12900K above the 5 GHz barrier. Although the speeds did not get above 5.1 GHz, hitting 5.08 GHz is still an impressive achievement for a 16-core processor.

The Intel Core i9-12900K has been mentioned by a few rumors and leaks in the past, and now the time has come to face it once again. Earlier today, this 16-core 24-thread processor was spotted running at over 5 GHz.

If you missed the pieces concerning the upcoming Alder Lake desktop parts, you should take into account just a few essentials. The aforementioned architecture brings together 8 P-Core (16 threads) and 8 E-Core (8 threads) parts, with a total of 30 MB L3 cache (3 MB per P-Core and 3 MB for each cluster that contains 4 E-Cores). In addition to these, you should also keep in mind that the chip features a total of 12.5 MB L2 cache as well (1.25 MB for each P-Core and each E-Core cluster).

For now, the problem is that the processor information revealed by APISAK on Twitter is a bit confusing. According to the leaked CPU specs, the Intel Core i9-12900K runs at multiple speeds, as below:

  • P-Core base/boost/all-core boost: 3.2/5.3/5 GHz
  • E-Core base/boost/all-core boost: TBA/3.9/3.7 GHz

The 5.08 GHz speed of this processor that was spotted by APISAK in SiSoft Sandra was accompanied by a 3.6 GHz clock speed, which is most likely the speed at which the E-Cores were running. The processor was tested using DDR5 memory, so it's not surprising to see it achieving impressive results when compared to existing parts like the i9-11900K or the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X.

The Intel Alder Lake processors should arrive in November, and an official unveiling is expected before the end of next month.
