iQOO launches new Legion Tab Gen 5 rival with compact 165Hz OLED display and large battery

Vivo has launched two iQOO-branded products in China, and the Pad Pro is one of them. It's an affordable version of the Pad Ultra that recently launched with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. However, instead of coming with the current top-end SoC, the Pro packs a last-gen flagship processor.

Specifically, the iQOO Pad Pro packs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, making it rival the Lenovo Legion Tab Gen 5 and RedMagic Astra 2. This SoC is paired with a large cooling fan and a wide two-way air inlet. With dual vapor chambers, the gaming tablet aims to deliver stable performance under heavy loads.

The company has integrated the Q3 esports chipset into the tablet, which promises multiple gaming enhancements. Vivo further highlights support for 165FPS mode in multiple games.

On that note, the front of the gaming tablet features a compact 8.8-inch OLED screen with a 165Hz refresh rate. Vivo claims that this display has a peak brightness rating of 4,500 nits and 100% DCI-P3 color coverage. With thin bezels measuring 2.65mm, the display should offer an immersive viewing experience.

Another highlight of the iQOO Pad Pro is the 9,020mAh battery, which is larger than the one in the RedMagic Astra 2. Vivo says it can offer up to 21 hours of video playback, but it's a bummer not to see anything faster than the 66W fast charging support the tablet comes with (160W Ugreen Nexode Pro charger curr. $59.99 on Amazon).

Other notable highlights include compatibility with the iQOO G1 gaming controller, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, a 13MP rear camera, and a slim, lightweight design. The base configuration of the Pad Pro has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and it retails for CNY 4,299, about $644.

As for the configuration with 16GB of RAM, it starts at CNY 5,099, around $765, while the top-end option with 512GB of internal storage costs CNY 5,799, about $869. Vivo has yet to share official details on the global launch of the iQOO Pad Pro.
