"iPhone 14 USB" grows in popularity as a search term by more than 300% over 12 months
According to Wisetek, internet users are very interested in an iPhone that drops the proprietary Lightning port for USB, possibly type-C for preference. The IT asset re-use and disposition group claims to have conducted research that shows the term "iPhone USB" has grown by 390% over the last 5 years.
They apparently reached their peak in October 2020 - which is when the iPhone 12 series was revealed. Hopes for the first-gen 'USB iPhone' were dashed on that occasion, then. However, that did not stop search-engine users looking for such a device.
However, the 13 series persisted in launching the following year with the same charging port. On that note, Wisetek also claims that “Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max to only show one punch hole, not twoiPhone 14 USB” has risen steadily as a search term ever since then, growing by 334% by August 2022.
More direct queries such as "iPhone 14 Pro USB C” or “will the iPhone 14 have USB C” are reportedly up 190% and 100% respectively over the same 12 months, with “iPhone USB C or Lightning” searches increasing by 82%. Ironically, however, the flagship smartphones are believed to stick with the latter for yet another year.
