dbrand launches 51 totally legal skins for Steam Machine

dbrand has released a full skin lineup for Valve's Steam Machine and its matching Steam Controller, following the cancellation of its Companion Cube case earlier this month after Valve issued a cease-and-desist notice. The store lists 51 designs in total across the Steam Machine, Steam Controller, and Steam Deck lines, with names such as Basketbox, Terminal, Package, Flat Earth, Bricks, Dice, Orange Box, and Glow in the Dark.

dbrand teased the drop on X, poking fun at its own Companion Cube saga by framing the new skins as "totally legal" alternatives now that the Portal-themed case is off the table. Nine of the 51 designs : Basketbox, Terminal, Flat Earth, Bricks, both Dice colorways, Package, Orange Box, and Touch Grass, were made specifically for the Steam Machine and come with matching Steam Controller skins, while the remainder come from dbrand's existing catalog.

Several designs lean into Valve-inspired visual references following the cancellation of the unlicensed Companion Cube case. dbrand says the skins will begin shipping in late August.

The launch caps a rocky few weeks for dbrand's Steam Machine accessory line. The Companion Cube case, which dbrand said became the second-fastest-selling product in the company's 15-year history, was pulled after Valve objected to its unlicensed use of Portal branding, as previously reported.
