A noted leaker has offered their take on the potential clock rates for key SKUs in the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” series. The commenter has been quite optimistic with some of the clock rate estimates, with the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X potentially offering a higher boost rate than Alder Lake’s i9-12900KS Turbo Max 3.0 speed of 5.3 GHz.

The well-known tipster Greymon55 has posted some clock rate predictions for some of the upcoming AMD Ryzen 7000 desktop processors of the Zen 4-based Raphael series. The leaker offered up estimates for the Ryzen 9 7950X, Ryzen 9 7900X, Ryzen 7 7800X, and the Ryzen 5 7600X, which just happen to be the same expected SKUs that featured in a recent supposed price leak. The OP, who makes it clear that it is just a prediction and not a specific leak, starts off positively by giving all four chips a 5.0 GHz all-core boost clock.

The Ryzen 5 7600X is awarded a potential single-core boost of 5.1 GHz, while the Ryzen 7 7800X and Ryzen 9 7900X are tipped at 5.2 GHz and 5.3 GHz, respectively. Of course, being the leader of the Raphael pack means that the Ryzen 9 7950X gets the highest clock rate, with Greymon55 predicting a single-core boost of 5.4 GHz for this Zen 4 powerhouse. The Intel Core i9-12900KS, the top-end Alder Lake SKU, offered a 3.4 GHz base rate, 5.2 GHz Turbo Boost 2.0, and 5.3 GHz Turbo Max 3.0 (all based on Performance cores). It should be mentioned that the chip from Team Blue can also hit 5.5 GHz but only for short periods via Thermal Velocity Boost.

Of course, it will be Raptor Lake and not Alder Lake that AMD’s Zen 4 Raphael parts will be facing off against, and there are already rumors that the potential Intel Core i9-13900K could reach a clock rate of 5.8 GHz. However, while many will expect Intel to take the single-core speed crown, the multi-core performance competition will be a completely different affair, and it will be important to also consider the power requirements and overall efficiency of the Zen 4 and Raptor Lake processors. It will be a thrilling showdown that could leave either company playing costly catch up with its following chip generations.
