Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019): A bargain tablet with record battery life

The Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019) impressed us in many areas during our recent time with the 10.1-inch tablet. Firstly, its battery life is exemplary. Our review unit lasted over fifteen hours in our practical Wi-Fi test, leaving comparable devices in its wake. We conducted this test by running a script that every thirty seconds simulated the load required to render a website. We also set the display to approximately 150 cd/m², for reference.

Better still, the Fire HD 10 (2019) lasted more than twenty-four hours in our H.264 video test, during which we left the short movie Big Buck Bunny running on a loop. We left the display at 150 cd/m² for this test too. In short, few devices can compete with the battery life that the Fire HD 10 (2019) offers.

These results are even more by surprising considering how much Amazon charges for the Fire HD 10 (2019). The device retails for just US$149.99, although Amazon places adverts on the lock screen unless you pay an additional US$15 to remove them. US$149.99 only nets you 32 GB of storage too, with the 64 GB model costing another US$40 regardless of whether you pay to remove Amazon's "special offers" or not.

The tablet has other high points too, like its bright display, good performance and fast Wi-Fi performance. However, Amazon has equipped the tablet with a sub-par set of cameras, while the absence of a GPS module or NFC is a shame.
