The handset did not arrive last month as previously rumored, but new images show a fingerprint scanner and plastic back.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 did not launch at the end of June as previously revealed by the company's head Lei Jun, but now this smartphone hits the rumor mill again. Previous rumors mentioned a metallic back, but now a leaked image that allegedly shows a Redmi Note 2 handset made of plastic. Since this is supposed to be a device for budget-conscious consumers, using a plastic case sounds like a logical choice.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 image posted on Weibo shows a fingerprint scanner on the back of the handset. This is not an unusual choice, although quite a few smartphones and phablets that pack one have it in the home button on the front. Earlier rumors mentioned a MediaTek MT6795 SoC, 5.5-inch Full HD display, 5 MP front camera and 13 MP camera on the back, as well as 4G LTE support.

The most interesting part is that Xiaomi apparently asked for the original image to be taken down, so the Redmi Note 2 may arrive pretty soon. Unfortunately, all we can do for now is wait for some official information, so stay tuned.
