Reviews for the Xiaomi Mi NoteBook 14 Horizon Edition
With the Mi NoteBook 14 Horizon Edition, Xiaomi aims to lower the entry point for a capable multimedia laptop. While the pricing seems right for a Core i7 Comet Lake device with discrete Nvidia MX350 graphics, it comes with several compromises. How do they affect overall usage? Let's find out.

All-in-all, the Xiaomi Mi Horizon Edition 14 is what you may call a newbie's perfect way to expand their horizon. You get some really good specifications for the price that it comes in. However, if you are wondering whether the laptop can take hours of hardcore gaming, the answer is no. Of course, if you want your laptop to pretty much blast off to Mars, go ahead with it. It has the Nvidia MX350 GPU which, although very efficient, is not what can run Far Cry 6 in Ultra settings. Wait, let me rephrase that, chances are that it won't run it at all. However, if you are considering this laptop, that is not your priority anyway right? I have reviewed the Mi Horizon Edition 14 8GB RAM and 512GB SATA SSD variant and it works seamlessly, in all honesty. In addition, the Intel Core i5 10th Gen chipset pushes your laptop to achieve pretty much anything you throw at it, work-related, of course. As long as you don't do anything too intensive and cause its thermals to skyrocket, it is good to go. If you ask me, in case you want a 14-inch sleek beast that screams style and business, this is totally it for you.

Summing up, the Mi Notebook 14 Horizon edition is not meant for heavy professional usage like designing or coding but if you’re someone who uses a laptop for regular work activities then you can consider it.

To conclude, we can say that Xiaomi Mi Notebook 14 is a fine debut from the company in the country's laptop market. While there are some misses like no back-lit display and lack of integrated web-cam, as a package Mi Notebook 14 offers good value propositions in terms of price-to-specs ratio. All in all, it makes us look forward to the company's future products in this segment.

To cut the long story short, the Mi NoteBook 14 at Rs 41,999 seems like a great value for money laptop. It too has an IPS screen and promise of similar battery performance. The Mi NoteBook 14 Horizon Edition is only for those who don’t mind paying a premium for a little less weight and marginally smaller dimensions. If it had a brighter screen and a better trackpad, I would have said otherwise. For now, this is what it is.

The Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition Core i5 variant is a capable notebook that delivers on most counts. It is similar to the Core i7 variant in terms of design and features but cuts corners on some key specifications that cause the performance metrics to drop a little. Therefore, the Core i7 variant, priced Rs 59,999, makes a better value proposition than the Rs 54,999 Core i5 variant.

As mentioned at the start of this review, for most users, the Mi NoteBook line is fantastic value. I cannot think of any other device in this price range that offers such a compelling combination of design, build quality, and performance. Xiaomi’s done an excellent job of balancing features and specifications at every price point in the lineup.

Well… a lot depends on who you are and what purpose this notebook serves in your life. If you are a mid-level employee or a college student or just someone who needs a laptop that can handle your everyday work running a web browser, video calls, or chatting with friends or colleagues on Slack or WhatsApp, I would happily recommend the Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition. The laptop has a good design, better processing power and keyboard than every other Windows laptop in this price bracket. For users who are into coding or designing, the Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition is not something you should even consider.

The Mi Notebook 14 Horizon Edition is not another Xiaomi product that will cause stampedes because of an unbelievably low price. It is, however, a competent and attractive thin-and-light laptop, and its price is still quite reasonable. It would be most suitable for office workers or students who prioritise productivity and portability more than entertainment. Xiaomi has smartly chosen very modern specifications and gone with a style that anyone would be happy with. Sure, the lack of a webcam is unfortunate, and there are some things we would have liked done differently, but there are no dealbreakers here.

The Xiaomi Mi NoteBook 14 Horizon Edition is the company's first laptop to be launched in India and it comes out the door swinging hard. The hardware in this machine allows it to deliver great in-class performance, while also giving 6 hours of battery life on moderate daily usage, a brilliant display for watching movies and getting work done. Where it loses points is with the keyboard which provides a very mushy typing experience, a trackpad that has too much play and the fact that Xiaomi couldn't pack the webcam into the display, so it has to offer a separate unit, making it easy to lose or forget. Despite the shortcomings, the Mi NoteBook 14 Horizon Edition is definitely setting a new bar for the category.

NVIDIA GeForce MX350: Successor of the MX250 and most likely a renamed GeForce GTX 1050 based on the Pascal GP107 chip with 640 shaders and a 64 Bit memory bus for GDDR5.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

i7-10510U: Comet Lake based low power quad-core processor (technically identical to Whiskey Lake and still produced on 14nm++). The CPU cores can clock between 1.8 and 4.9 GHz (all 4 cores 4.3 GHz max.) with HyperThreading (8 threads). The integrated memory controller supports DDR4-2666 and using cTDP up/down the performance can be adjusted by the OEM (10 - 25 Watt possible, 15W default).» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

78.38%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
