The leaked render presents the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 as an almost bezel-less smartphone that integrates a piezoelectric speaker, but does away with the front camera. The new model is thinner and is expected to hit the Chinese market this mid-September for US$748.

The Chinese smartphone industry has made astounding progress in the past few years, evolving to the point it almost rivals the South Koreans. The quality of the Chinese handsets has increased and the designs are not just copying the best elements from the US and Korean models, bringing innovations of their own. Last year Xiaomi seems to have created a trend with their almost bezel-less Mi MIX model, which featured no bezel on the upper and side parts of the screen. Xiaomi announced it was working on a successor for the Mi MIX earlier this year and some specs for the Mi MIX 2 were leaked in the GeekBench last month. If the latest leaked image of the Mi MIX 2 represents the final design, it looks like Xiaomi wants to expand the bezel-less design of the first model.

The leaked render presents an almost 100% screen-to-body ratio, with the bottom front bezel reduced even more compared to last year’s model. Xiaomi will most likely integrate a piezoelectric speaker in the glass cover, as the render doesn’t show any conventional speaker. The near bezel-less panel seems to be coming with a drawback, though, since the front camera is nowhere to be seen. The design features a bright silver metallic frame with rounded corners and the Mi MIX 2 seems thinner than its 0.31-inch predecessor.

The leak also mentions that the Mi MIX 2 would come with a US$748 price tag, and the it is expected to hit the Chinese market in mid-September this year.
