Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 to launch on September 11
The original Mi MIX arrived last November and its successor will be unveiled in less than two weeks, confirms Xiaomi. After multiple rumors and a few official teasers, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 phablet finally has an official launch date: September 11.
Xiaomi's recent blog post about the arrival of the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 only recalls the details that made its predecessor such a popular device, mentioning that the Mi MIX "won numerous awards for innovative design" and was drawn by the well-known French designer Philippe Starck. The "revolutionary 2.0 bezel-less display" part does not say much for now, unfortunately.
The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 already visited Geekbench, so it will not be surprising to see it using a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and 6 GB memory as revealed by the benchmark database. The Geekbench entry also uncovered the operating system on board as Android 7.1.1 Nougat. We should also expect it to come with MIUI 9 on top, of course.
Although the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821-powered Mi MIX phablet is widely known for its massive 6.4-inch bezel-less display, it also features a piezoelectric acoustic system that uses the device's body to transmit sound instead of a classic speaker design. The Mi MIX 2 should inherit this innovative feature as well, but is expected to drop the fully ceramic body for a more conventional metal build.
Xiaomi pushed the bezel-less design into the market and helped it become (nearly) the norm. Its successor might do the same for something new - maybe a front camera placed somehow behind the display since the Mi MIX already accommodated the proximity sensor there.
