Mi 9 is one of the best Android phones out there, and with this SE version it is not only more affordable but also more compact. The SE has all the same headline features, with a new in-display fingerprint sensor, triple-lens 48Mp camera and gorgeous "holographic" glass body, but Xiaomi has cut costs by swapping in a mid-range processor and ditching the wireless charging. An excellent mid-range phone at £349 (and cheaper elsewhere), Mi 9 SE is well worth a look if your budget doesn't quite stretch to the Mi 9.

Its design and screen are sensational for the price, it has a newer, more powerful chipset than the likes of the Nokia 8.1, Oppo RX17 Neo and the Moto One Vision, and a versatile, capable triple camera setup. While battery life could be better, and there are some software elements we don’t love, considering the price, Xiaomi has delivered incredible value, creating a compact, flagship quality phone that doesn’t break the bank.

Midrangers don't normally come with true triple cameras. Good phones which are good for single-handed use don't show up too often either. Imagine then trying to find one that meets both of these requirements. Only you don't need to imagine anything, the Mi 9 SE is real. We certainly would have liked to have some basic conveniences like a memory expansion slot and a headphone jack. Xiaomi tries to make up for the absence of these with an infrared emitter, which is nice and all, but it's no extra storage. Those are minor things, though, and the Mi 9 SE is plenty good at the important stuff - it's got an excellent display, takes great pictures with a camera trio you won't find outside of flagship territory, and has decent battery life. It also manages to fit all that in a small footprint and a more than a reasonable budget. What's not to like?

Overall, the Xiaomi Mi 9 SE is quite impressive, just like its older sibling, the standard Mi 9. It delivers a pretty good performance, has a good battery life, and despite having a single down-firing speaker, the audio quality is decent. It’s priced a little higher than its peers in the mid-range market but, as the baby Mi 9, you pretty much get a smartphone that has flagship features and won’t turn the insides of your wallet to dust.

Впрочем, некоторых функций все равно не хватает. Например, хочется видеть влагозащиту стандарта IP68 и оптическую стабилизацию хотя бы в одной из камер. Плюс отдельный слот для microSD-карт для многих явно не станет лишним. Увы, этих возможностей нет даже во флагманской модели, так что требовать их от урезанной версии нелогично. Зато последняя стоит намного дешевле: версию с 64 ГБ памяти можно купить всего за 24 990 рублей — на «десятку» дешевле, чем обычный Mi 9 с таким же объемом памяти.

Model: The Xiaomi Mi 9 SE was created for those who value a pocket-sized phone. It comes with the same flagship features that make up the Mi 9: Samsung AMOLED display, improved on-screen fingerprint sensor, and Sony 48 MP camera. It also features NFC, IR remote control, and the world premiere Qualcomm Snapdragon 712. The Mi 9 SE is housed in glass finished with holographic spectrum design. When light meets the glass, it shines with dreamlike colors of the future. The Mi 9 SE's 5.97-inch Samsung AMOLED screen is stunning with a 90.47 % screen-to-body ratio and flagship level display. The NTSC 103.8 % wide color gamut makes videos and photos more vibrant. The screen keeps its clarity in bright light with Sunlight mode 2.0, which intelligently adjusts brightness according to the sun's rays, giving a rich and colorful experience indoors and outside. The improved in-screen fingerprint sensor features advanced optical fingerprint recognition technology that shows remarkable results, even in bright light or with dry fingers. Optimized for more speed and increased success rate, it's a more convenient unlocking experience.

The phone's Sony 48 MP primary camera has 4 times as many pixels as the typical 12 MP smartphone camera. The Sony flagship camera brings a high-resolution experience that lets users keep clarity even when cropping small sections, allowing users to create a whole new picture. With the 1/2" image sensor and 4-in-1 1.6 μm large pixels, photos are lively and vivid with color. Besides that, this 123° wide-angle lens allows users to capture whole landscapes in a single shot. The 20 MP selfie camera not only supports Beautify and 3D makeup, it can also add a glimmer to the eyes. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 processors is paired with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. It is equipped with faster access UFS 2.1 flash memory and LPDDR4x RAM, which allows users to load games faster, preview images and accelerate file processing. The phone features Game Turbo for optimizing graphic effects in games,  customizable touch screen sensitivity as well as higher frame rate and stability. As a conclusion, the Mi 9 SE is a smartphone with an outstanding camera. Its Sony flagship 48 MP camera is very suitable for users who require a great camera to take professional looking photos on the go. Paired with a great display and decent performance, this phone is a great mid-range device for power users.
