The Xiaomi 15 is the company’s flagship offering that was released in China in October 2024. It was among the first smartphones that featured the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. A new leak has surfaced on the Chinese site Weibo, revealing key camera details of the Xiaomi 16, the company’s next-gen flagship phone.
The new leak suggests the Xiaomi 16 will retain similar rear camera module design as its predecessor. The camera specifications may also be identical to last year’s model. It is tipped to feature a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50MP 1/1.3” primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens.
One of the key highlights of the Xiaomi 16 will be Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship SoC, expected to be called the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2. Qualcomm is set to introduce the chipset in the Snapdragon Summit, scheduled for late September. The Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 is expected to deliver a 30% improvement in GPU performance over its predecessor, while offering up to 25% faster CPU speeds.
Additionally, the flagship phone may feature battery improvements. While the Xiaomi 15 came with a 5,240mAh battery, the Xiaomi 16 is tipped to pack a significantly larger unit exceeding 6,500mAh. On the software side, the phone is expected to launch with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.
The phone is expected to be released in September in China. However, the global launch may take place later, likely in early 2026.
