Withings has launched the BeamO smart thermometer in some European countries. This 4-in-1 health tracking gadget was first seen at CES 2024, where it won an Innovation Award. It is a contactless thermometer with an integrated stethoscope and pulse oximeter, as well as a 1-lead ECG, allowing you to track a wide range of heart and lung health metrics.
The BeamO has is a HotSpot Gen2 temperature sensor, two electrodes, a multi-wavelength PPG sensor, a piezoelectric sensor and a force sensor, with data shown on an integrated color LCD screen. Withings suggests that the device can provide a complete health check-up in less than a minute from the comfort of your home. According to the company, the gadget could help to detect signs of AFib, hypoxemia and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
The BeamO connects to your smartphone via Wi-Fi, allowing you to view your data in the Withings app. Plus, you can share the measurements in real time during a video or telephone consultation with a medical professional. The product is compact at 3.7 x 1.9 x 13.6 cm (~1.5 x 0.7 x 5.4 inches), and it weighs 80g (~2.8 oz). It is said to run for up to eight months on the built-in battery, recharging via USB-C in around an hour.
You can now buy the Withings BeamO in countries like the Netherlands, Spain and France for €249.95. Customers are offered a free Cardio Check-up with a certified cardiologist as part of a wider three-month Withings+ subscription; this would be charged at €9.95 per month thereafter. The BeamO is still marked as “Coming Soon” at the brand’s online stores in the US and the UK. It is thought that the company is still awaiting the necessary FDA clearance, causing the delay to the US launch; it is expected to retail here for $249.95.
