Volkswagen to unveil 3-row ID. Buzz on June 2 at event paying homage to the VW Bus of old
Volkswagen has partnered with International Day Calendar to create International Volkswagen Bus Day on June 2. The first celebration will take place in Huntington Beach, California, where Volkswagen will debut the American version of the all-electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz (via Electric Cars Report). While the European version of the ID. Buzz is a short-wheelbase five-seater van reminiscent of the VW Bus of old, the US version will feature three rows of seats instead.
The new US version of the ID. Buzz will feature a longer wheelbase to accommodate a third row for more passengers. In theory, a longer wheelbase would allow Volkswagen to include a larger battery pack than the 82 kWh one available in the extant European version, but VW has been mum on technical specifications about the LWB ID. Buzz. The brand will let fans take the new all-electric ID. Buzz for a test drive at the event, though.
If Volkswagen expects US buyers to use the ID. Buzz for family road trips, it would make sense for the vehicle to receive a range upgrade, but we'll have to wait until June 2 to find out. What we can expect with some certainty is that the same motor setup will be used, giving buyers the option of 150 kW (204 hp) rear-wheel drive trim and an AWD GTX variant with 246 kW (335 hp).
As part of the launch celebrations, Volkswagen has invited owners of classic VW Buses to participate in what it's calling "Busses and Coffee." The meet-up event will pay homage to classic VW Buses and allow owners of classic Type 2 buses to strut their stuff at the event.
