iQOO’s first "Ultra" flagship is here and tries to convince mobile gamers with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, an active cooling fan and shoulder buttons. With a 7,400mAh battery and three 50MP cameras, the smartphone also has a lot to offer for regular users. The iQOO 15 Ultra will first launch in China.

The new Vivo iQOO 15 Ultra is expected to offer better specifications than the iQOO 15. This starts with the design, as the new flagship features a back with a striking honeycomb pattern and is available in white or black. The square camera bump sports an RGB LED strip that can signal incoming notifications.

The phone is 0.34 inches thick, weighs 8 oz and is IP69 certified and thus waterproof. Vivo relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which is also found in the more affordable iQOO 15. However, this chipset is now combined with an active fan, which is why the iQOO 15 Ultra should offer better gaming performance. The gaming focus is also emphasized by two touch-sensitive shoulder buttons that can be used to play more complex mobile titles.

The 6.85-inch AMOLED panel has a resolution of 3168 x 1440 pixels, a refresh rate of 144Hz, and a remarkable peak HDR brightness of 8,000 nits or 2,600 nits in terms of full-screen brightness. Meanwhile, the battery has a capacity of 7,400mAh, and charging takes place via USB-C at up to 100 watts or wirelessly at 40 watts. The iQOO 15 Ultra makes fewer compromises with its camera setup than many other gaming flagships, such as the RedMagic 11 Pro.

Vivo further opted for a 50MP f/1.9 main camera with a 1/1.56-inch sensor, a 50MP f/2.05 ultra-wide-angle camera with a 1/2.76-inch sensor, and a 50MP f/2.65 telephoto camera with a 1/1.95-inch sensor and 3x optical zoom. The 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera is located in a centered punch-hole. The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is integrated into the display.

Price and availability

The Vivo iQOO 15 Ultra will launch in China first, where the base model with 16GB RAM and 256GB of storage is offered for the equivalent of $820, while Vivo is charging $1,110 for the top model with 24GB RAM and 1TB of storage. Vivo has not yet confirmed a potential global launch.
